There are a couple of things we must have in the morning: coffee, and protein. But let’s be honest, with our busy lifestyle, enjoying a hot cup of joe with our steaming plate of freshly cooked eggs just isn’t happening. We need something quick and easy that delivers. Step in, this magical cold brew coffee protein shake. Not to toot our own horn or anything, but this stuff is straight MAGIC. Not only that, it gives you two of your morning essentials in one. Like we said, magic.
Having a solid dose of protein in the morning is a surefire way to jumpstart your metabolism. It also prevents you from feeling hungry later on. Protein in the morning is a ridiculously easy way to set yourself up for success. In a world filled with flakey pastries and filled donuts, we need something on our side. And protein is it.
And coffee is just… well… COFFEE. Coffee lovers know that sometimes, the promise of that tasty little beverage is ALL that gets us out of bed in the mornings.
But lately, we’ve been learning more and more about acidic and alkaline foods (you want to stick to alkaline… more on that another time). And coffee is… *gasp* highly acidic. We may or may not have shed a tear over this sad fact. And no, this doesn’t mean we’ve completely forgone our coffee habit. But we did want to find an alternative for most days.
Cue in… Cold brew coffee. This little gem is still the coffee we know and love, but it’s been steeped in cold water for a number of hours, rather than exposed to hot water. The end result is an incredible, smooth coffee that has significantly less acid than normal coffee. And you can drink it faster, because it’s cold. Soooo… That’s a plus. All of the things made it the perfect addition to a coffee protein shake.

Now let’s bring it all together in this delicious, filling, caffeine kicking, miracle shake. We’re not kidding, this shake is EVERYTHING you could ever hope for in a beverage. A coffee protein shake that’ll make your mornings (or afternoons..) sing.

This cold brew coffee protein shake tastes incredible, packs a solid dose of protein (AND some carbs), and hits the coffee fix. All in one. Thank goodness, because between smoothies, protein shakes, and coffees, we were really getting sick of 16 bathroom trips before 9.
In addition, this shake has minimal ingredients and packs maximum flavor. You can even get creative with it, and switch up the protein flavors.
We were originally using vanilla protein, but when that ran out, we decided to use the peanut butter protein we had (Orgain just came out with this flavor and it’s aaaaaamazing). We thought this was going to make the shake a little strange… But, it did the exact opposite. Instead of tasting of weird coffee and peanut butter (no thanks), the peanut butter flavor ended up just enhancing the coffee, and kicking up the creamy factor. YUM.

1 Cup Cold Brew Coffee
1/2 Cup Almond Milk
2 Scoops Plant Based Protein Powder
1/2 tsp. Cinnamon
1/2 tsp. Vanilla
1 Tbsp. Flax Seeds
1. Combine all ingredients in a blender.
2. Hit blend.
3. Pour in your favorite mug.
