Tropical Avocado Smoothie Recipe

I have a secret… I HATE avocado. I know. I’m the worst plant based diet follower EVER. And apparently, according to my little brother, a total failure as a female because, ‘every girl likes avocado‘. I’ve literally tried everything to like it. I ate it over and over again in hopes of developing a taste for it. I put crunchies on it to change up the texture. I tried it in numerous different forms. And I still can’t eat it. Guacamole? Nope. Not that either. Unfortunately for me, avocado is SO damn good for you. The healthy fats are off the charts, and it’s packed with filling fiber and nutrients. And of course, Ben can eat it without blinking an eye. So what’s an avocado hating girl to do? Ta-da! AVOCADO SMOOTHIE!

Our avocado smoothie is creamy and delicious. And no, it doesn’t taste like the liquified version of guac. This cool, creamy treat belongs nowhere near your burrito. In fact, it’s tropical as hell and seriously tastes like summer in a cup.

Which is amazing, considering it’s loaded with green things.

We also chose to use unsweetened coconut water, instead of almond milk or regular water. Coconut water is uber hydrating, and filled with nutrients including potassium, magnesium, and manganese (just to name a few). It also gives you an extra hit of fiber, which is always a bonus.

Being a teacher, I don’t get to drink nearly as much water as I want (due to seriously limited bathroom breaks), so I try to sneak in extra effective hydration whenever I can. Coconut water is an awesome way to go about this.

And here’s a public service announcement: MOST Americans are ridiculously, habitually dehydrated (whether they’re a teacher or not). You NEED to properly hydrate your body. If you’re going pee every 15 minutes, pat yourself on the back. If not? Step up your H2O game.

Not only is it delicious, but this avocado smoothie is also a perfect way to start your day since it’s jam packed with greens and fiber. I mean, who can argue with getting in an avocado and spinach first thing in the morning?!ย Revving up with this bad boy will give you an amazing natural energy boost (who needs coffee??), and keeps you full for hours.

Honestly, after drinking this, we weren’t hungry again for a solid 4 hours. Veggies for the win.

Oh, and in case you were wondering, getting those stupid decorative strawberries stuck onto the sides of the glass was annoying as sh*t. Turns out all you have to do is slice them super thin and they stick wonderfully. Good thing we spent a solid 20 minutes figuring that out.

But hey, anything for a good pic, right?

Plus, food tastes better when it looks fancy AF.

Tropical Avocado Smoothie


1/2 Avocado

3/4 Can Coconut Water (unsweetend without pulp)

2 Cups Spinach

1 Cup Frozen Pineapple

1 Tbsp. Flax Seed


1. Add all ingredients into a blender.

2. Blend (don’t forget to put the top on silly).

3. Enjoy! (Instagram strawberries optional.)

    This looks so yummy! I’ve been eating a lot of avocados lately, but I wasn’t sure how good they would be in a smoothie! I love the strawberries on the side of the glass too. ๐Ÿ™‚

    Ok, I can’t eat an avocado on its own but I can have it in a form of a smoothie, avocado toast, guacamole, and etc. It’s great that you found a way to make avocado taste great and YAS!!! Coconut water IS LIFE.

    I love how easy it is to make the tropical avocado smoothie. I actually haven’t tried this with coconut water before. Definitely something to try out!

      Haha I know it’s crazy but I haven’t tried avocado toast! Maybe that’ll be my next step on the road to avocado recovery :). And we think that the coconut water really adds a more tropical flavor!

      I’ve run into the same thing! I’m usually pretty hungry only a couple hours later. I think the fatty avocado and leafy greens help. You could also add a scoop of protein to seriously fill yourself up!

    I’m not going to lie, I think you might be the first person I’ve ever encountered who doesn’t like avocado! I get it though, sometimes if the ripeness isn’t quite ripe I can’t get them down. I’ll definitely have to try this smoothie recipe out, it sounds delicious!

    Iโ€™m not a major fan of avocado either. I can have a little bit in a sandwich mixed in with the salad, but canโ€™t eat large amounts of it. It tastes really strange. This smoothie looks great though! I love what youโ€™ve done with the strawberries – definitely worth the twenty minutes it took!

    Okay, this sounds sooooo good! I’ll admit, I only have smoothies during the warmer months of the year and keep winter for water and hot chocolate (wild child, I know…) but I’ll keep this in mind for summer, for sure! I’d never thought of putting avocado in a smoothie before!

    The first sentence of this post made me smile. I totally thought the same thing……Avocado? I’m glad you found a way to incorporate avocado into your diet. I love guacamole, although that’s full of salt, so maybe it’s not the healthiest option.

    Love the strawberry decoration inside the glass – thanks for the tip for cutting them really thin – will try that one out in the future. What a shame that you don’t like avocado, this smoothie looks so healthy and delicious! I tend to make a ‘chocolate mousse’ with avocado and so far no one could tell there is avocado in it – very healthy as well and a real treat ๐Ÿ™‚
