A couple of weeks ago we skipped off to Vegas again for a little mini-vacay. The Venetian was running a killer deal that we really couldn’t pass up, and we had airline credit to spend on top of that. Plus, you all know we don’t exactly need an excuse to visit our home away from home. Some people are surprised that a couple of health nuts like ourselves are so in love with the city of Sin, but we’ve perfected the ultimate Vegas balance that keeps us on track while also splurging.
The morning of, we chugged a whole bunch of WTR MLN juice. This is our absolute favorite way to hydrate up quick. Air travel dehydrates your body like crazy, so it’s important to load up on liquids. Watermelon juice is an especially effective hydrator because it’s got tons of electrolytes. (We also love this after a workout or hot yoga).
We scored the exit row again. Extra leg room FTW.
Our first stop after checking in was the gym. Honestly, I really wasn’t feeling it. I hadn’t slept well, and flying always throws me off. But we knew we were about to go to EggSlut, and it’s basically a proven fact that food tastes so much better after a sweat session. ALSO, the Venetian has an amazing hotel gym, so that’s not bad either.
Part of the Vegas balance for us is still getting in a workout at least a few days. While we love bouncing around and having fun, fitness it high on our priority list, so skipping out on 4 straight days of workouts isn’t an option.
Since I was sleep deprived, I just did a treadmill walk on an 11 incline at 3.2 speed for 45 minutes. Slow and steady cardio is a great fat burner. Oh, and getting to watch GOT while you’re working out is fun too. Ben hit the weights and did shoulders and abs.
Next up was placing sports bets and a trip to EggSlut.
Sports betting is one of our favorite ways to gamble in Vegas. It’s extra fun because you actually get to watch the game, so it lasts longer than just throwing money on a table.
And by fun, I mean I feel like I’m going to barf from anxiety for about 96% of the game.
Yes, that’s three sammiches. And they were DELICIOUS.
So this is where part of the Vegas balance comes in. We knew we were probably going to drink on Saturday night, so we decided to get a good dinner in and get to bed semi early on Friday night. Dinner was a veggie fried rice, and Ben hit the poker tables for a while. We were sound asleep by about 11. And it was wonderful.
Saturday, we got up and hit another morning workout. Again, it’s the balance! We felt great, we weren’t hungover, and we knew that getting another session in would help us stay on track.
This time, I did a challenging leg based 30 min HIIT workout, and Ben did weights again.
Afterwards, we ate at one of our favorite breakfast spots, Hexx. Both of us got a veggie egg white omelette (no cheese) with a side smashed potatoes and an english muffin.
The veggie omelette is super light, especially sans cheese. And then we get a little bit of extra yum with the taters and english muffin. We could probably eat about a pound of those potatoes.
We did more sports betting, watched some of the games, and went shopping. For those of you who don’t know, Vegas has some pretty epic shopping. Be warned, you WILL get lost in some of the shopping centers!
I think we put in a solid extra 2 miles trying to find our way out of the Miracle Mile shops.
Once it got dark, we got semi dressed up, and hit some of the tables to play Black Jack. And I won! I was pretty proud of myself :). Even though I had no idea what I was doing. And adding my cards was becoming increasingly difficult. Thank goodness the dealer knew what she was doing.
At this point in the night, things got pretty silly (thanks to a little JD).
**Note: we very rarely drink. Avoiding alcohol is one of the things that keeps us healthy and feeling our best. BUT, we also believe in letting loose sometimes. However, shit canned is not cute. We do our best to avoid that look.
Not going to lie about this: those pics were taken at about 8 PM. We tapped out at 10. I requested french fries and ate them in bed. They were literally the BEST fries I’d ever had in my life (I felt it was necessary to tell Ben this about 600 times). Then we promptly passed out.
Vegas, you win this time.
The morning wasn’t too bad since we’d fallen asleep so early. We went to Hexx again (hey, we know what we like), and placed one more bet. This was a serious nail biter, but Drew Brees came though and we won.
The Venetian had a very cool art installation up. This pic was perfect :). I just love him.
We headed to the airport, stoked about winning the last game in the last minute, and pretty much on cloud 9.
BUT, it wouldn’t be a trip for us without a super late flight delay. Luckily, we both had tons of blog work and videos to do that kept us busy.
At this point we were starving, but Jamba Juice came in with the save, and we devoured these acai bowls.
They were SO good. Yummy acai smoothie, granola, bananas, blueberries, strawberries, coconut, and honey. We’re planning to recreate them (with slightly less sugar). We’ll post that recipe soon!
We finally made it home around 12AM. Not ideal since we both had to work the next day. But so worth the trip.
Now that we’ve mastered the Vegas balance, we really can have our cake and eat it too. It’s all about identifying your priorities and making some healthy choices. Vegas, we’ll see you again soon!
