Hey there Dreamers! We hope you’ve all had an incredible holiday season, took some time off to be with people you love, and are ready to head into this New Year strong. After stuffing our faces with french toast casserole, sticky buns, mashed potatoes, and every homemade cookie imaginable, we are so ready to get back on track and take the dreamer New Year head on.
Honestly, we can’t even believe that it’s almost 2018 (how many times have you heard THAT recently?!). As we’ve gotten older, these years have been flying by faster and faster (yes, we were warned of that). But one of the greatest things about that is the fact that we’re looking FORWARD to these coming years more than we ever have. Ben and I find ourselves just bursting with excitement to see what life is bringing us as we follow our dreams. Seeing the rewards and the satisfaction that has come with hard work and striving for what we want has been incredible.
BUT, we also want to remember to look back and reflect on the moments that we were blessed with, the ones that pushed us to grow, the ones that hurt, and the ones we’re currently living.
While it’s hard to condense an entire year into one post, here are our 2017 highlights.
We started both this blog and the Nutrition Mission YouTube channel! We’ve spent the year pouring endless hours into these projects and watching our babies grow.
We went snowmobiling up at Grand Mesa (and are praying for more snow this year so we can go back!).
Ben turned 30 and we celebrated with an epic weekend in Sin City.
I survived my first year of teaching, fell in love with 1st grade, AND couldn’t wait to go back for more.
We ran our favorite race in the world (The Bolder Boulder), and Ben PR’d at 43:08.
Ben planted his first garden.
We spent our summer hiking, swimming, and exploring. Ben wore a shirt approximately 16% of the time.
My dad turned 70 and we threw down the most epic party imaginable.
We hit up Vegas again for the summer (don’t let this picture fool you, it was 105 degrees and we were dying).
We went to Italy for 2.5 life changing weeks, and left part of our hearts there forever.
Our Red Rocks season was mild (for us) and we saw Odesza, Zeds Dead, Bassnectar (not at RR), and Big Gigantic. The epic double rainbow was the highlight of the season.
We went to San Francisco and Yuba City to watch my dad race in the championships.
We hit 9 years together as a couple. This year we had some of the hardest, but best conversations we’ve ever had. And after almost a decade together, we still love, respect, and support each other more and more every day.
And there it is. The dreamer 2017 all packed up neatly in a post. But let’s be honest, this year has been so much more than a few pictures could ever convey. We laughed, we cried, we fought, we made up, we traveled, we grew, and we took risks we never thought we were capable of taking.
In the end, we’re thankful beyond words to simply have each other. To have a partner who so eagerly encourages the other person to follow their dreams, no matter how wild they may seem. A person who doesn’t ask you ‘how’ you’re going to reach for your stars, but asks you ‘what’ they can do to help you get there. Someone to celebrate your successes, catch your tears of frustration and disappointment, and allow you the space to grow when needed. A forever person with whom you will endlessly pursue your dreams together.
If there’s anything 2017 has really taught us, it’s the importance and value of having that person in your corner. It’s not always easy on either side, but it’s worth it. Partnerships are work. But life is so much brighter with them.
So here’s to YOUR dreamer partner. Whether you’ve found them yet or not, they’re out there.
Keep each other smiling, and keep each other dreaming.
